My Approach to Coaching
Personal reflection on my quests and experiences along my life’s journey has led me to discover my passion for people and their purpose. I find it sad to see people who are not pursuing their passions and using their abilities to their full potential – they seem not to “live life on purpose”. I believe everyone has a different portfolio of talents and abilities that, together with their personality and life experiences, give them the potential to make a unique and meaningful contribution to people and the world around them. It is the appropriate and effective use of these resources that many people struggle with.
As a coach, my aim is to provide people with a personal reflective space where they can begin to understand themselves in relation to what they want to achieve and how they can achieve it. I assist through listening, probing and questioning whilst exploring possibilities with clients for them to achieve their specific goals and perform at a more effective level. My approach is collaborative and outcomes-driven, whilst building a sustainable, independent capacity in the client to confidently continue to grow and develop while implementing his/her development plan even long after the initial series of coaching sessions.
The coaching sessions are structured around my 6C’s coaching framework, namely:
1. Context
2. Clear Goals
3. Controls
4. Current Reality
5. Constraint
6. Charter.Typically, the coaching takes place over 4 to 6 sessions of 90 minutes each, every two weeks. After review, it may be agreed to extend the coaching for a further number of sessions. Whereafter, some clients see the benefit of coaching on regular basis (say, annually), or during any particularly challenging tasks/times. That being said, I offer a tailored approach where the coaching sessions are structured around each client’s specific needs, situation and desired outcomes.
Some of the more common reasons for clients requiring my coaching services are for developing high-potential performers, facilitating transition to a new or more challenging position and/or acting as a sounding board.
My desire is for clients to get a real sense of personal accomplishment as they embark on a renewed calling towards their work and life as a whole with enthusiasm, passion and purpose. The real measure for the success of clients’ coaching sessions is where, in addition to the clients’ sense of benefit, family, friends, colleagues and clients’ organisations can all testify to the clients’ improved contribution in all areas of responsibility.
